Baby Steps: An intro to the world of coding
Did you just recently graduated and planning to become a developer? Career shifter perhaps? Or looking for a new and interesting hobby this time of pandemic?
Whatever it may be, welcome to the world of coding! Web development, mobile development, and game development, too many to mention. The point is, you are here to learn.
To tell you honestly, coding is not as easy as 1, 2, 3. It requires interest to learn, focus, grit, and a lot of patience. So if you have those qualities then you’re on the right track.
Five quick tips when you start learning how to code:
-
- Pick a path. Since information technology or programming to be specific is broad, pick at least one career path. Web development? Mobile development? Game development? Even if it is just a hobby, pick one then you’re off for a good start.
- Pick a technology or a programming language. So you’ve now chosen a path. This time, pick a language or technology you want to learn. Just like in a piano lesson learning a song, you need your first song. You must have at least one programming language not to master but to learn and understand.
- Pick a tool. This one is the easiest part. To code, you need the right set of tools you may want to use. They call it Integrated Development Environment or IDE.
- Learn the concept and fundamentals. Again, in a piano lesson, learning the keys and notes are the basic components in learning music. The same as coding. Learn the basics and fundamentals of programming. Different variable data types, basic conditions, and logical operations, etc.,
- Enjoy what you’re doing. In coding, yes you need to focus, and you spend most of your time thinking about how to start or to resolve your current issue. Learning is not fun without enjoyment. The more you enjoy what you’re doing, the faster you will learn, and you will appreciate the detail of things.
GOOD LUCK!
